"DANCING RENDERED HER JOINTS UNMANAGEABLE"

DANCER CLAIMS TO HAVE LOST CONTROL OF DIARTHRODIAL JOINTS, SUES PRODUCER

Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On May 23, 1922, Chicago jazz dancer Marie Ehlers filed a lawsuit against her producer, Ernest Young.  She seeks $10,000 in damages because of lost control of the diarthrodial joints* dancing under his direction.

Miss Ehlers claims the "hip-writhing and shoulder-shivering required in the dances" has rendered her joints unmanageable.  The New York Tribune states "whenever she hears jazz music she is unable to sit still" causing her "mortification and embarrassment."

*diarthrodial joints: site of the junction or union of two or more bones which provide motion & flexibility to the frame of the body.
