"PARTY NOT ALTOGETHER POPULAR IN WASHINGTON"

HARDING WILL NOT ATTEND DEDICATION OF WOMEN'S NATIONAL PARTY HQS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) President Warren G. Harding's "last minute decision to abandon his plans for attending the dedication of the headquarters of the Women's National Party* yesterday had behind it a definite purpose."

It has been the President's standard policy to refuse recognition of political or other blocs.  He encourages women's participation in the nation's two party political system rather than through "special interest" blocs.

The Herald states that the Women's National Party, the militant group of the women's suffrage movement, "is not altogether popular in Washington."

*National Woman's Party was founded in 1916 to fight for woman's suffrage.  Its most prominent leader was Alice Paul.  The NWP broke from the National American Woman's Suffrage Association.
