"ONE OF THE RICHEST MEN IN THE WORLD"

WILLIAM ROCKEFELLER, YOUNGER BROTHER OF JOHN D., DEAD AT 81

Mount Pleasant, New York (JFK+50) On June 24, 1922, William Rockefeller, Jr.*, younger brother of John D. Rockefeller, passed away at his Gilded Age mansion, Rockwood Hall**, here in Mount Pleasant.

William Rockefeller, "one of the richest men in the world," left an estate valued at 150 million dollars.

The 81 year old businessman caught cold after driving through a rainstorm a week before his passing.  The cold caused a chill that resulted in pneumonia.

*William Avery Rockefeller, Jr. (1841-1922) was born in Richford, New York & co-founded Standard Oil Company with his brother, John D.  WAR was also owner of Anaconda Copper Company.

**Rockwood Hall, located on the Hudson River in Mt. Pleasant, NY, has 204 rooms & once was the 2nd largest house in the U.S. (Biltmore in N.C. the largest).  After WR's death, it was sold to investors & became a country club.
