FLORIDA SENATOR CALLS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF HEALTH CONDITIONS IN STATE
St. Petersburg, Florida (JFK+50) On October 23, 1922, United States Senator Duncan U. Fletcher* (D-Florida) "urged maintenance and improvement of health conditions in Florida."
The Senator, speaking at the main session of the annual convention of the Florida Relators Association, also "stressed the importance of mosquito eradication."
The Ocala Evening Star reports Senator Fletcher also pledged national aid "to this end" providing local efforts are also made.
*Duncan Upshaw Fletcher (1859-1936) was born in Americus, Georgia & graduated from University of Vanderbilt School of Law, 1880. DUF served as mayor of Jacksonville, FL, member of the Florida State House of Representatives & as the longest serving U.S. senator in Flordia's history, 1909-1936. He once said "'the lost cause' was not so much 'lost' as is sometimes supposed."
