"MADE POSSIBLE BASED ON SOUND BUSINESS POLICY"

HARDING..."NO BELLIGERENT COUNTRY HAS REDUCED EXPENDITURES SO RAPIDLY"

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 15, 1922, President Warren G. Harding pointed out in a letter to Representative Frank Mondell* "no other belligerent country has...reduced its expenditures so rapidly as our own."

The President stated that aggregate public expenditures dropped from $6,403,343,000 in 1920 to $3,373,607,000 in 1922.  Mr. Harding said that this has been made possible "through united and determined effort...based on the sound business policy of proper budget organization."

*Frank Wheeler Mondell (1860-1939) was born in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was mayor of Newcastle, Wyoming, 1888-1895, & served in Congress, 1895-1897 & 1899-1913.
