UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR CALLS FOR COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Baltimore, Maryland (JFK+50) On December 2, 1922, Dr. Samuel B. McCormick*, Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, said "America is rapidly becoming feminized."
The Chancellor was giving a speech at a meeting of college presidents and ROTC** inspectors being held here in Baltimore.
Dr. McCormick predicts the United States will soon be "a nation of women" if it listens to those "opposing war for any cause whatever."
He said...
"We need compulsory military training in the colleges and universities if we are to properly prepare in case of war."
*Samuel Black McCormick (1858-1928) graduated from Washington & Jefferson College, 1880 & became an attorney, minister & educator.
**ROTC, Reserve Officer Training Corps is a college/university based officer training program for the U.S. armed forces.
