WOODROW WILSON TAKES AN ACTIVE PART IN POLITICS
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 11, 1922, the Evening Star published a front page story by David Lawrence in which he writes "there is every reason to believe the progressive movement will soon break out in the ranks of the democratic party."
Lawrence points out that the former president's recent decision "to take an active part in...politics" represents a "significant change in the mood" of the party.
Mr. Wilson now works at least two hours and sees one visitor each day. According to Lawrence, the former POTUS sees himself as the leader of the party and spokesman for the progressive wing.
JFK+50 NOTE
President Wilson suffered a severe stroke in 1919 while campaigning for support for U.S. entry into the League of Nations. Although incapacitated, he completed his term in 1921.
