"HARDING GOING TO SAN FRANCISCO FOR COOLER TEMPS"

PRESIDENT'S CONDITION IMPROVING AFTER PTOMAINE  POISONING

San Francisco, California (JFK+50) On July 29, 1923, The Evening Star reports that last evening Brigadier Charles E. Sawyer*, President Warren G. Harding's personal physician, said...

"The President's condition is somewhat improved, the bowel trouble has disappeared entirely and his temperature...is considerably lower."

Mr. Harding is recovering from a  "slight attack of ptomaine poisoning**."  Another factor was the heat which had troubled the President during the day.

The presidential schedule is going to be changed because of the health issues.  The President will be coming to San Francisco in hopes that the cooler temperatures will hasten his full recovery.

The President and First Lady will be arriving here tomorrow and will be staying at the Palace Hotel.

*Charles Elmer Sawyer (1860-1924) was born in Wyandot, Ohio & became the longtime personal physician of  President Warren G. Harding & Florence Harding.

**Ptomaine poisoning, a.k.a. food poisoning, is caused by any of various amines formed by putrefactive bacteria.
