"MR.WILSON REGRETS HIS INABILITY TO PARTICIPATE"

WOODROW WILSON TOO WEAK TO ATTEND HARDING FUNERAL

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 5, 1923, The Sunday Star reports that President Calvin Coolidge has been informed that former President Woodrow Wilson will not be able to attend the funeral services of the late President Warren G. Harding to be held later this week.

Mr. Coolidge had made inquiry of Mr. Wilson's plans in regard to attending the services through Colonel Clarence O. Sherrill* and Rear Admiral Cary T. Grayson.

A statement issued by Col. Sherrill, who is in charge of funeral arrangements, reads...

"Mr. Wilson regrets his inability to participate on account of the condition of his health."

*Clarence O. Sherrill (1876-1959) was born in Newton, NC & attended Trinity College (Duke) & graduated U.S. Military Academy, 1901.  COS served in WWI & was chief military aide to Presidents Harding & Coolidge.  He also was Director of Public Buildings & Parks.
