"CAL WILL CONTINUE HARDING'S POLICIES"

COOLIDGE RECEIVES PRAISE & SUPPORT FROM EVERY QUARTER

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 15, 1923, The Evening Star reports President Calvin Coolidge is receiving "praise and pledges of support from practically every quarter of the country" in light of his pledge to continue the policies of the late President Warren G. Harding and his promise to act decisively to prevent a coal famine this winter.

The President has received support not only from party leaders but also from individual citizens, industrial organizations and labor.

Senator Reed Smoot* (R-Utah) and Senator Henry W. Keyes** (R-New Hampshire), who called upon President Coolidge at the White House today, also indicated their loyalty and support.

*Reed Smoot (1862-1941) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of a Mormon pioneer from Kentucky.  RS served as mayor of SLC 1856-1862 & as a US Senator 1903-1933.

**Henry Wilder Keyes (1863-1938) was born in Newbury, Vermont & served as governor of New Hampshire 1917-1919 & U.S. Senator 1919-1937.
