"WILLING TO FOLLOW ANY LEADER WHO PROMISES A CHANGE"

FAT-STARVED GERMANS EAT BUTTERED BREAD FOR DESSERT

London (JFK+50) On September 27, 1923, The Evening Star reports Dr. Edwin B. Walston* of Des Moines, Iowa, upon arrival here in England, "asserted...that great masses of Bavarians and Prussians are so desperately hungry that they are willing to follow any leader who promises a change."

The surgeon says...

"Practically every class of town dwellers are starved for fats.  The usual dessert consists of buttered bread."

*Dr. Edwin B. Walston, born in 1869 in Illinois, lived at 846 Sexth Street in Des Moines, Iowa.

JFK+50 NOTE

One tablespoon of salted butter adds 102 calories and 11.5 grams of fat to a slice of white toast.
