"NATIVE INTELLIGENCE SHOULD BE SOUGHT IN TESTS"

I.Q. TESTS MAY SOON BE A REQUIREMENT FOR MARRIAGE

Madison, Wisconsin (JFK+50) On October 18, 1923, the Associated Press reports Professor E.A. Ross* of the University of Wisconsin says the "passing of an intelligence test as a requirement for marriage can be looked for within ten to twenty years."

The nationally known sociologist said, "Native intelligence itself...should be sought in the tests."

*Edward Alsworth Ross (1866-1951) was born in Virden, Illinois & graduated from Coe College 1887, PhD Johns Hopkins University 1891, professor of sociology at Indiana University, Cornell, Stanford, University of Nebraska & University of Wisconsin, Madison.  In 1920, EAR published "The Principles of Sociology."

JFK+50 NOTE

The State of Tennessee requires prospective marriage candidates to be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid Driver's License (plus a passport if not a U.S. citizen) or Birth Certificate.  If the social security # is not printed on the DL, then a social security card is also required.

We can find no evidence that an intelligence test has ever been a requirement to obtain a marriage license in the United States.  Perhaps, however, there have been some who questioned their own intelligence after their marriage.
