"TO ENHANCE THE GLORY & POWER OF THE G.O.P."

REPUBLICANS PLAN NATIONAL CLUB IN WASHINGTON

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 16, 1923, The Evening Star reports "plans are maturing for the establishment of a national republican club* in Washington on a monumental scale."

These plans are being pushed along by Attorney General Harry M. Daugherty and National Committeeman W. F. Colladay.  They had the blessing of the late President Warren G. Harding and has the blessing also of President Calvin Coolidge.

The Star writes...

"Its purpose is...to enhance the glory and power of the G.O.P. in every nook and cranny of the land."

*Today's National Republican Club, aka Capitol Hill Club, was established in 1951 by NJ Congressman James C. Auchincloss.  It is described as "one of the most popular gathering spots in Washington for lawmakers & government officials."
