SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AT OCEAN BOTTOM 8 MILLION YEARS AGO
Los Angeles, California (JFK+50) On December 20, 1923, the Associated Press reports "the fossil of a whales rib has convinced scientists that southern California was at the bottom of the ocean not more than 8,000,000 years ago."
This information was given to the AP by Dr. David Starr Jordan* and other paleontologists who have been investigating extensive fossil deposits in Trabuco Canyon**.
*Dr. David Starr Jordan (1851-1931) was born in Gainesville, NY & received his MS at Cornell University, MD at Indiana Medical College. DSJ was president of Indiana University 1884-1891 & of Stanford University 1891-1913. Dr. Jordan was an ichthyologist.
**Trabuco Canyon is located in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in Orange County, California.
