NEW ORLEANS BUSINESS WOMEN DEMAND EQUAL RIGHTS IN BARBERSHOPS
New Orleans, Louisiana (JFK+50) On January 11, 1924, the Associated Press reports "business women of New Orleans have demanded...equal barber shop rights with man."
Their appeal was made to the New Orleans Association of Commerce which "passed the buck" to barbers' union locals and the Master Barbers' Association*.
The business women of the Crescent City want "free access" to all barber shops and "a chance to take their turn with men."
One male owner characterizes barbershops as "the last stronghold of man."
