"GREATEST EVER CONSTRUCTED IN THIS HEMISPHERE"

NATIONAL CATHEDRAL ANONYMOUSLY GIFTED 'GREAT ORGAN'

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On April 30, 1924, "announcement of the anonymous gift of a great organ...to be installed in the National Cathedral* at Mount St. Alban was made...by Rt. Rev. James E. Freeman**, Bishop of Washington.

According to the Evening Star, the organ was gifted by a New England woman in honor of her mother.  The Star reports that the organ will be "the greatest ever constructed in this hemisphere."

*Washington National Cathedral of the Episcopal church is a neo-gothic style building, the second largest in the U.S. & the third tallest building in the Nation's Capital.

**James Edward Freeman (1866-1943) served as the 3rd bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C., 1923-1943.
