SECRETARY HOOVER REPEATS AGAIN, 'I AM NOT A CANDIDATE FOR THE VICE PRESIDENCY'
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On June 11, 1924, The Evening Star reports that after conferring with President Calvin Coolidge, Commerce secretary Herbert C. Hoover* "vigorously reiterated...that he was not a candidate for the vice presidency."
The Secretary said, "My position has not changed one iota," and added that he has not been offered the job.
*Herbert Clark Hoover (1874-1964) was born in West Branch, Iowa & graduated Stanford University 1895. HCH became a mining engineer before leading the Commission For Relief in Belgium & serving as director of the Food Administration.
HCH served as Secretary of Commerce & as 31st POTUS 1929-1933.
