"WELL, I DECLARE!"

GENERAL DAWES LEARNS OF HIS VICE-PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION OVER THE RADIO

Cleveland, Ohio (JFK+50) On June 13, 1924, Brig. General Charles G. Dawes was nominated by the Republican National Convention meeting here in Cleveland for the office of Vice-President of the United States.

The Associated Press reports that the General was taken by surprise when the announcement of his nomination came over the radio.  Mr. Dawes had only one comment...

"Well, I declare!"
