"CEMENTED RELATIONSHIP OF UTMOST VALUE TO HUMANITY"

LORD CHANCELLOR SAYS AMERICAN REVOLUTION WAS 'GOOD FOR THE WORLD'

London (JFK+50) On July 21, 1924, "the Hall of Westminster rang with applause" when the Lord Chancellor, Viscount Haldane*, "declared that the (American) revolution in 1776...had worked for the good of the world and had cemented a relationship which had been of the utmost value to humanity."

The Lord Chancellor spoke in welcoming members of the American Bar Association arriving in London for the initiation of the International Law Congress.

*Richard Burdon Haldane (1856-1928) was born in Edinburgh, U.K. & educated at the University of Edinburgh & University of Gottingen.  RBH became an influential Liberal & Labour politician who served as Secretary of Stare for War 1905-1912.
