"CHARLES W. BRYAN WEARING BLACK SKULL CAP"

DEMOCRATIC VICE-PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE IN TOWN

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 12, 1924, The Evening Star reports that Charles W. Bryan*, Democratic vice-presidential nominee, "is in town for a few hours "to pay his respects to the Democratic national committee and take up some matters with the federal government concerning his own state."

Mr. Bryan is described as "a tall, well-built, pleasant-voiced Nebraskan, wearing...a close-fitting black skull cap."

Bryan explained that he wears the skull cap out of medical necessity to prevent severe pain and in his eyes and nervous headaches.

*Charles Wayland Bryan (1867-1945) was born in Salem, Illinois & became mayor of Lincoln, NE 1915-1917, 1935-1937 & served as governor of Nebraska 1923-1925, 1931-1935.  CWB was the youngest brother of William Jennings Bryan.
