"EDUCATORS SHOULD SUPPORT PARTY PROMOTING EDUCATION"

NEA DISPLEASED WITH 'SCANT CONSIDERATION' GIVEN BY BOTH MAJOR PARTIES TO EDUCATION

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 2, 1924, Dr. William C. Bagley* of the Teacher's College of Columbia University urged educators "to throw their votes en masse to the political organization which promises to do the most to promote education."

Dr. Bagley was speaking at a session of the general assembly of the National Education Association which is denouncing "the failure of the Republican and Democratic parties to give but 'scant consideration' to education in their platforms.

The NEA general assembly meeting took place at Central High School auditorium.

*William Chandler Bagley (1874-1946) was born in Detroit, Michigan & graduated from Michigan State Agricultural College 1898, University of Wisconsin (BS) & PhD Cornell University.

WCB was a professor of education at the University of Illinois & Teacher's College of Columbia University 1917-1940.  Dr. Bagley was an opponent of 'progressive' education.
