"IF YOU WOULD BE POTUS, DON'T GET FAT!"

SENATOR ADVISES BOY SCOUTS TO STAY TRIM IF THEY WANT TO BE PRESIDENT

New York City (JFK+50) On July 19, 1924, United States Senator Royal S. Copeland* (D-New York) spoke to three thousand Boy Scouts in camp at Bear Mountain.

The Senator told the young men...

"If you would be POTUS, don't get fat!  Keep your waistline down for the day of the statesman with the fifty inch girdle is gone."

He reasoned...

"The Public now knows if a man is too lazy to care for his own health, he would be too lazy to care for the public business."

*Royal Samuel Copeland (1868-1938) was born in Dexter, Michigan & was educated at the University of Michigan & Eastern Michigan University.  RSC was mayor of Ann Arbor 1901-1903 & US Senator 1923-1938.

According to Statista, the heaviest POTUS was William Howard Taft with Grover Cleveland coming in a distant second.  The weight of the heaviest presidents are given as...

The lightest POTUS was James Madison 122.  Both JFK & Richard Nixon weighed in at 175.
