"DELIGHTS IN ACCOMPANYING FIREMEN TO A BLAZE"

FIREHOUSE CAT SLIDES DOWN BRASS POLE WHEN ALARM RINGS

New York City (JFK+50) On August 18, 1924, The Associated Press reports the discovery of "a cat that slides down the brass pole in a fire station when an alarm rings."

The firemen assigned to a station in lower Manhattan "adopted the cat as a mascot while it was a kitten."

The AP adds that the feline "delights in accompanying the firemen to a blaze."
