MOVEMENT UNDERFOOT TO HAVE AMBASSADOR JUSSERAND ELECTED TO THE FRENCH ACADEMY
Paris, France (JFK+50) The Associated Press reports on October 20, 1924, that "a movement is underfoot to reward Jules Jusserand*, French ambassador to the United States, for distinguished services as a diplomat and writer."
Mr. Jusserand, who already possesses the grand cross of the Legion of Honor, would be rewarded by his election to the French Academy**.
The ambassador, a prolific author of books on many different subjects, played a key role in US entry into the World War and accompanied President Woodrow Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.
JFK+50 NOTE
There is a granite memorial which honors Jules Jusserand in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. It was dedicated in 1936 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was called "the best obscure memorial" in the Nation's Capital by Washington City Paper in 2014.
*Jean Jules Jusserand (1855-1932) was born in Lyon, France & educated at the University of Lyon. JJJ served as French ambassador to the U.S. 1903-1925.
**The French Academy, established in 1635, is the principal French council for matters pertaining to the French language.
