"COTTON MAIN U.S. EXPORT, FURS MAIN U.S. IMPORT"

50% MORE TRADE WITH U.S.S.R. IN 1924 THAN WITH CZARIST RUSSIA BEFORE THE WAR

New York City (JFK+50) On January 3, 1925, The Associated Press reports that the United States "did 50% more business with the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) in 1924...than with czarist Russia before the war."

This despite the fact that the United States has not officially recognized the new communist government of Russia.

The total amount of increase is $69,757,761.

The main export item from the United States to the U.S.S.R. last year was cotton with 265,645 bales shipped at a value of $42,700,000.

Furs were the main import item from the U.S.S.R. to the United States last year with a value of $8,000,000.

JFK+50 NOTE

The United States broke off diplomatic relations with Russia on Dec 6, 1917 when the Bolsheviks took power from the czarist regime.  Diplomatic relations were resumed on Nov 16, 1933 when FDR negotiated an agreement with the USSR.

Diplomatic relations constitute communication & interaction between two countries.  The breaking off of diplomatic relations may or may not impact trade between the two.
