SHOUTS OF EXULTATION SPOIL ECLIPSE PHOTOS
Ithaca, New York (JFK+50) On January 24, 1925, Professor S.L. Boothroyd and his staff at the Fuertes Observatory at Cornell University "succeeded in obtaining all scheduled exposures with the corona camera and the spectroscope."
A problem arose, however, when the moon's shadow "swept across" and the Prof shouted a signal to an assistant positioned at the 12 inch telescope which was "drowned in a roar of exultation" from observers.
The assistant, not hearing the signal, failed to make an exposure during the "total phase" of the solar eclipse*.
*Solar Eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth & Sun blocking the Sun's light * casting a shadow on Earth. SE occur every 6 months. In a "total eclipse" the Sun is completely blocked from view from Earth by the Moon.
