"SILENT SCREEN ACTRESS'S THIRD MARRIAGE"

GLORIA SWANSON WED TO FRENCH MARQUIS

Paris, France (JFK+50) On January 28, 1925, motion picture actress Gloria Swanson* "was married...to the Marquis de la Falaise de la Coudray**."

The marriage ceremony took place here in Paris at noon.  According to the Associated Press, Miss Swanson has been in France "for some weeks...making a production."

Her witness at the ceremony was Hallet Johnson, first secretary of the American Embassy.  Baron D'Aiguy "acted for the groom."

JFK+50 NOTE

Gloria Swanson had a "lengthy" 3 year affair with JFK's father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. in the late 1920s.  She became his business partner & their relationship was an "open secret" in Hollywood.  The affair ended after an unsuccessful movie venture.

*Gloria Swanson (1899-1983) was born in Chicago, Illinois & won fame as a silent movie actress in the 1920s.  GS was nominated 3 times for Academy Awards & won the Golden Globe Award for her role in Sunset Blvd, 1950.  She supported the Republican Party & candidates Wilkie, Dewey, Goldwater & Reagan.  She married 6 times.

**Henri Marquis de la Falaise served as GS's translator during filming of Madame Sans-Gene & became her 3rd husband.  The couple divorced in 1930.
