SCIENTIST GIVES SECRET TO SOBERING UP A DRUNK
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) During the age of prohibition you would think there would be no need for tips on how to get sober, but apparently not necessarily so.
On April 27, 1925, Dr. Yandell Henderson* of Yale University presented tips at the National Association of Science meeting here in the Nation's Capital "on how to bring drunks out of their comatose condition."
Dr. Henderson, presenting a paper titled "Measurement of the Circulation in Man," says the solution is to "compel" the drunk gentleman (or lady?) "to breathe rapidly."
Soberness, according to the professor, should result in 30 or 40 minutes as the "extremely soluble alcohol will have left the system."
*Dr. Yandell Henderson was born in Louisville, Kentucky & studied at Yale University, AB 1895, PhD 1898. YH served in the US Navy & became a professor of Applied Physiology at Yale. He made important contributions to cardio-respiratory physiology & was a leading advocate of public health.
