"10 .30 CALIBER MACHINE GUNS TO REMAIN SILENT"

DIRIGIBLE SHENANDOAH TO MAKE 1ST TRIP AS WAR MACHINE

Lakehurst, New Jersey (JFK+50) On August 12, 1925, Associated Press reports that "the Navy dirigible Shenandoah* will begin her first trip as an armed dirigible either late today or early tomorrow."

Ten .30 caliber machine guns have been installed on the dirigible but they will not be tested during this exercise.

There will be a test to "take on fuel from a base in the open sea."  If successful, this will be the first such test ever completed.

*USS Shenandoah (ZR1) was constructed at Lakehurst NJ 1922-1923 & was the 1st USN rigid airship.  It made its 1st flight in Sept 1923 & was the first to cross North America.
