JIMMY WALKER ELECTED NEW YORK CITY MAYOR
New York City (JFK+50) On November 3, 1925, Jimmy Walker* was elected 97th mayor of New York City. Mayor-elect Walker graduated from New York Law School in 1904.
He served as a member of the New York State Assembly 1910-1914, and New York Senate 1915-1925.
Mr. Walker was a Liberal Democrat who opposed prohibition. He was forced to resign in 1932 for accepting kickbacks.

According to Avenue Magazine, Jimmy Walker "may have been NYC's most corrupt mayor," but adds "damn was he fun!" The magazine describes him as a "prohibition dandy who stuffed his pockets with bribes while proving to be a remarkably efficient city manager."
Walker was nicknamed "The Night Mayor" because he spent many nights at NYC's speakeasies.
*James John Walker (1881-1946) was born in New York City. He became an attorney, lyricist and politician. JJW wrote the lyrics for the 1906 hit song "Will You Love Me In December As You Do In May."
