ROCKEFELLER'S OFFER TO FUND CAIRO MUSEUM & INSTITUTE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY EGYPTIANS
London, U.K. (JFK+50) On February 19, 1926, Associated Press reports "official circles in Egypt" believe John D. Rockefeller's* offer of $10,000,000 "to found a museum of antiquities and archaeological institute at Cairo" will not be accepted.
The source of this information acquired by AP is a Cairo dispatch to the Daily Mail.
The Egyptians say that their country "is not so poor as to need such outside assistance."
*John Davison Rockefeller, Sr. (1839-1937) was born in Richford, New York. JDR founded Standard Oil Company in 1870 & became one of the wealthiest Americans in history. The Rockefeller Foundation funded medicine, education & scientific research.
