"GRAND COUNCIL MAKES AUGUSTO TURATI GEN SECRETARY"

IDEAL FASCIST STATE ENVISIONED BY MUSSOLINI A STEP CLOSER

Rome, Italy (JFK+50) On March 31, 1926, Associated Press reports that the Grand Council of the Fascist Party here in Italy took a step this morning toward "realization of Premier (Benito) Mussolini's dream of the perfect fascist state."

The Council provided for the direct labor union representation in the Senate and appointed Augusto Turati*, organizer of labor unions, to the position of General Secretary."

*Augusto Turati (1888-1955) was born in Parma, Italy & served on the Front in WWI.  AT joined the National Fascist Party & was active in trade unionism.  He served as General Secretary 1926-1930.
