GREAT DEALS MADE AT PARAMOUNT'S ANNUAL SALE
Hollywood, California (JFK+50) The annual sale of the wardrobe department of the Paramount West Coast Studio was held here in Hollywood on March 6, 1926.
Costumes worn by actresses but "too soiled for further use" were put up for bid to "hundreds of women" who "fought for advantageous places" at the annual sale.
Associated Press reports a shopgirl bought Pola Negri's* Parisian pumps "for a few cents" while Gloria Swanson's** "gorgeous cape" brought five bucks.
*Barbara Apolonia Chalupiec, aka Pola Negri, (1897-1987) was born in Lipno, Poland & won world wide fame as a stage & film actress & singer during the 1920s.
**Gloria Mae Josephine Swanson (1899-1983) was born in Chicago, Illinois & became a silent screen star actress nominated for 3 Academy Awards & winning the Golden Globe Award (1950). She hired JFK's father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. to handle her financial affairs in 1927.
