"BY CAPTAIN LUDOVIC ARRACHART"

NEW WORLD RECORD FOR NON-STOP AIR FLIGHT SET

Paris, France (JFK+50) On June 28, 1926, Associated Press reports "a new world record for non-stop flight in an airplane is claimed for Captain Ludovic Arrachart*."

The Captain and his brother Paul landed at Basra on the Persian Gulf after flying 2,484 miles in 26.5 hours.

The airplane is a 556 horsepower motorized aircraft carrying 3.5 tons of gasoline.

*Ludovic Arrachart (1897-1933) was born in Besancon, France & served in World War I.  LA became a pioneer of intercontinental aviation.  He died when his plane experienced engine failure and crashed.
