"ONLY CHILD OF A PRESIDENT KILLED IN ACTION"

QUENTIN ROOSEVELT IS DEAD AFTER HIS PLANE IS SHOT DOWN IN FRANCE

Marne River, France (JFK+50) On July 14, 1918, the son of the 26th President of the United States, Second Lt. Quentin Roosevelt*, was killed when his aircraft was shot down over the Marne River.

Lt. Roosevelt was a member of the 95th Aero Squadron and was engaged to Flora Payne Whitney, the granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt.

TR was devastated by the news of Quentin's death.  It was later said, "Finally, the little boy in TR died." 

JFK+50 NOTE

Quentin Roosevelt is the only child of a President of the United states to have been killed in action.

*Quentin Roosevelt (1897-1918) was born in Washington, D.C., the youngest son of President & Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt.  QR grew up in The White House & attended Harvard University before serving in the world war.
