'They say (Earl) Warren runs the (Supreme Court).'
Justice Frankfurter, who retired in 1962, said...
"Nine free men, appointed by the President of the United States...run the court...no one else."
He was in the process of being pushed around Hains Point** in his wheelchair accompanied by Thomas Beasley, his messenger since FDR appointed him to the High Court in 1939, & his nurse Margaret MacKay.
*Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965) was born in Vienna & graduated City College of New York & Harvard Law School. FF served as associate justice of the USSC 1939-1962.
**Hains Point is named for Peter Conover Hains, engineer who developed the Tidal Basin at the convergence of the Potomac, Washington Channel & Anacostia River.
