"THE WONDER WORKERS OF ALL THE AGES"

PRESIDENT SPEAKS TO 4000 SCIENTISTS AT THE WHITE HOUSE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 31, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge spoke to 4000 members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science from the South Portico of the White House.

The scientists were in the Nation's Capital for the 79th convocation of the AAAS.  In his address, in which the President referred to the scientists as "the wonder workers of all the ages," Mr. Coolidge said...

"You represent the interests, the forces and the endless activities which...are conquering new domains and adding...to the...realm of human knowledge."

"MR. BRYAN'S VIEWS POSE DANGER TO RELIGION"

SCIENTISTS CALL FOR GREATER ALLIANCE OF CHURCH & SCIENCE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 30, 1924, The Evening Star lists four features "of scientific knowledge brought to light...before...the American Association for the Advancement of Science*" meeting here in the Nation's Capital.

The four features include...

^Heart disease is now the #1 killer

^Chlorine gas is worthless as a cure for colds & disease

^American-born families may be in danger of disappearing by the invasion of alien-born families

^William Jennings Bryan's views on the theory of evolution are a danger to religion showing the need for closer alliance of the church and science

In regard to the last finding, The Star opines...

"Mr. Bryan considers all of his...beliefs as of a certitude permitting no discussion."  

The 'Great Commoner' is deemed an "amateur" on the issue of evolution when compared to Charles Darwin, the "professional."
