"COULD SEND OUT FOR ALMOST ANYTHING HE WANTED"

'KING OF BOOTLEGGERS' GAVE MANY PARTIES WHILE IN PRISON

Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On March 25, 1926, Associated Press reports that Cincinnati bootlegger George Remus* , "whose activities led to a term in Atlanta Penitentiary," will be going into the real-estate business here in the Windy City.

George Remus made his fortune in the liquor business although he lost a court case in which 1,550 cases of re-war whisky were destroyed.

Mr. Remus says he gave many parties while in prison and "could send out for almost anything" he wished.

George Remus (1874-1952) was born in Landsberg, Germany & is described as "the mastermind of one of the most famous whisky rings in the United States."  GR shot & killed his wife in 1927 but was acquitted.
