"PRESENT BUILDING INADEQUATE FOR PAST 9 YEARS"

PRESIDENT'S CHURCH TO 'DISAPPEAR', 10 STORY CHURCH-OFFICE BUILDING PROPOSED

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 12, 1925, The Evening Star reports that the First Congregational Church here in the Nation's Capital, known as the President's Church, "will soon disappear to make room for a structure that will probably be a 10 story office-church building."

The church, located on the northeastern corner of 10th and G Streets, has been a landmark for sixty years.

While it is certain there will be a new structure, it is less certain if it will include "offices or apartments" in addition to the church.

Rev. Dr. Jason Noble Pierce*, church pastor, maintains the present building "has been inadequate for nine years."

JFK+50 NOTE

When completed, the new building will include two lower floors with brick exterior for the church and eight upper floors with an exterior of reflective glass.
