"HOUSE DEEDED TO SPOUSE IN MOMENT OF AFFECTION"

SUPREME COURT OF APPEALS RULES FORMER HUSBAND MAY BE EJECTED FROM HOME BY EX

Richmond, Virginia (JFK+50) On January 16, 1925, the United States Supreme Court of Appeals ruled "a wife has a right to eject her erstwhile* husband from a house which he deeded to her in a moment of love and affection."

The decision came in the case of Arthur C. Humphreys of Norfolk who is suing his wife Jean Carter Humphreys "to recover a handsome residence in a fashionable district."

Mrs. Humphreys, who was deeded the home in 1909, subsequently secured a divorce from her husband and married Richard V. Strong of Washington, D.C.

*erstwhile means former
