ST ISSAC'S CATHEDRAL TO BE CONVERTED INTO A MUSEUM
Leningrad (JFK+50) On July 3, 1924, the Associated Press reports "the governing body of St. Isaac's Cathedral* has decided to convert the superb edifice into a museum and charge admission."
AP says that this is a result of declining church attendance in bolshevik Russia.
St. Isaac's was built at a cost of $11,000,000.
*Saint Isaac's Cathedral, located in Saint Petersburg, Russia is today a state museum with church services conducted in the side chapel. The cathedral was built between 1818 & 1858. It was turned into a museum by the Soviet government in 1931.
