"SECURES AMERICAN RIGHTS ARISING OUT OF THE WAR"

SENATE APPROVES PEACE RESOLUTION; HARDING EXPECTED TO SIGN

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 1, 1921, the United States Senate voted in favor of a resolution establishing peace between the U.S. and Germany and Austria.  The resolution passed 38 to 19.  The House approved the resolution on June 30 by a vote of 263 to 59.

The resolution was dispatched to the White House and President Warren G. Harding was expected to sign it on July 2nd.  Senator Frank B. Brandegee* (R-Connecticut) believes the resolution will result in the "immediate withdrawal of American troops from the Rhine."

According to the New York Tribune, the resolution..."opens the way to a resumption of diplomatic relations and secures American rights arising out of the war. "

*Frank Bosworth Brandegee (1864-1924) was born in New London, CT & educated at Yale University.  FBB served in the US House of Representatives & the Senate, 1905-1924.  He committed suicide due to ill health & bad investments.
