Knoxville, Tennessee (JFK+50) We dedicate today's posting to my Uncle Ray White who passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 98.
Ray was known as "DAD" on his blog, "Dad's Tomato Garden Journal."
In the recently published book Dad, The Tomato Man by Benna F. J. van Vuuren & Michael D. J. van Vuuren, Ray is referred to as "America's Oldest Blogger".*
Uncle Ray (Dad) was a major inspiration to me in starting JFK+50 & he was always willing & able to give valuable advice.
Dad, we love you & will miss you.

The Lodge Fight IV.
Knoxville, Tennessee (JFK+50) Today we continue our report on Chapter 3 of the book by Kenneth P. O'Donnell & David F. Powers with Joe McCarthy. It is published by Little, Brown & Company.
Kenneth O'Donnell writes that when he 1st met JFK, in 1952, he hardly knew him. He had seen & talked with Jack on occasion when visiting his friend, Bobby Kennedy, at Hyannis Port.
Kenny & Bobby became friends playing football together at Harvard.
Kenny went to work in Jack's congressional office in Boston. There he learned that JFK had decided to run for the U.S. Senate.
Kenny writes that in the 1st 2 months, the Kennedy campaign was plagued by disorganization.
There was no statewide KENNEDY FOR U.S. SENATE organization.
Bob Kennedy came to the rescue.
Just 26 years old & with little knowledge of state politics, Robert F. Kennedy sacrificed his job at the Justice Department to come to Massachusetts to manage JFK's Senate campaign.*
*It is Kenneth O'Donnell's opinion that had RFK not done so, Jack Kennedy would have been defeated.
