The Lodge Fight III.
It seems there was a political rally in Boston in 1948 in which President Harry Truman would appear.
JFK, however, wanted to avoid the "hoopla" of coming in the main entrance with spotlights shining on him & the band playing.
So he & Dave tried to "sneak in" the back door.
Suddenly they found themselves surrounded by 5 agents of the President's Secret Service detail. Dave & Jack were taken to Jim Rowley*, the agent in charge.
"This is Congressman Kennedy. You can let him in, & I guess the fellow with him must be all right, too."
*James Joseph Rowley (1908-1992) was Director of the United States Secret Service from 1961 to 1973. He was appointed by President Kennedy & continued in the position during the Johnson & Nixon years.
He began working for the SS after joining the FBI in 1936. The Secret Service training academy in Beltsville, MD. is named in his honor.
