FORMING A GOVERNMENT III
Knoxville, Tennessee (JFK+50) Today we continue our report of Chapter 9 of the book by Kenneth P. O'Donnell & David F. Powers with Joe McCarthy. It is published by Little, Brown & Company.
The title of Chapter 9 is FORMING A GOVERNMENT.
Kenneth O'Donnell writes that the week after the visit to the LBJ Ranch JFK was in Palm Beach & then spent Thanksgiving with his wife & daughter in Georgetown.
But on the flight back to Palm Beach, JFK was told Jackie (in labor) had been rushed to the hospital.
After landing in Florida, JFK learned his wife was about to go Caesarean surgery.
On the flight to Washington, at 1:17 a.m., the President-elect heard the news that his son, John F. Kennedy, Jr., was born & that the baby & mother were fine.
JFK spent the next 2 weeks in Georgetown visiting Jackie & John in the hospital 3 times each day.
He would hold press conferences outside the front door of his townhouse at 3307 N Street.

JFK found choosing the right people for his administration to be a challenging task.
Kenny says that at one point, JFK said:
"For the last 4 years, I spent so much time getting to know people who could help me get elected President that I didn't have any time to get to know people who could help me, after I was elected, to be a good President."
