TREND OF THE TIMES: A FEMININE ASSAULT ON THE GAME OF MARBLES
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On March 17, 1922, the Evening Star reports "the boys of Greater Boston are making a stand against feminine assault on...the game of marbles*."
The Star says that the game "hitherto" was "almost exclusively" reserved to young males.
The girls are found to be "almost as numerous as boys" playing marbles on the sidewalks of the suburbs of the city.
A negative result of this phenomenon is the fact that this new generation of young females go home to their mothers with "soiled" hands and "muddied" knees causing them to "find cause to lament the trend of the times."
*Marbles is a game played with small, round glass balls. The game was played in Ancient Egypt & Rome. Rules vary and are made up by the players.
