ROME SAYS DAVID'S TOMB BELONGS IN ITALY
Rome (JFK+50) On June 29, 1922, protests were made "by both government and ecclesiastical authorities" in opposition to a proposal between Great Britain and Italy "to abide by the League of Nation's decision regarding the disposition of holy places in Palestine."
The New York Tribune reports that Rome considers the site as "belonging to Italy" and the Vatican has been attempting over the past two years to have it returned to Italy through Catholic missionaries.
JFK+50 NOTE
According to Professor Doron Bar, president of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, "although the sources for the tradition of David's tomb on Mount Zion are not clear, it appears that it...(took) root during the...early Muslim period. The Christians inherited this belief from the Muslims."
