HARDING ACCEPTS RESIGNATION OF ASSISTANT TREASURY SECRETARY
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 25, 1922, the White House announced that President Warren G. Harding had accepted the resignation of Elmer C. Dover* as Assistant Secretary of Treasury in charge of internal revenue and customs.
Mr. Dover had served as Mr. Harding's campaign director on the Pacific Coast prior to his nomination as Assistant Secretary of Treasury. In 1904, he was secretary of the Republican National Committee.
*Elmer Clayton Dover (1873-1940) was a native of McConnelsville, Ohio & edited newspapers in Akron & Portsmouth, Ohio. ECD was Mark Hanna's secretary during William McKinley's presidential campaign of 1896 & served as Asst. Secretary of Treasury 1921-1922.
