"THE BIGGEST LOG CABIN IN THE UNITED STATES"

WOODMEN ARRIVE IN AURORA TO BUILD CONVENTION CENTER FOR NATIONAL LUMBERMEN'S ASSOCIATION 

Aurora, Illinois (JFK+50) On July 21, 1922, the Evening Star reports "forty woodmen arrived here (in Aurora*) yesterday where they will build the biggest log cabin in the United States."

The log cabin will serve as a permanent convention hall of the National Lumbermen's Association of America**.

The dimensions of the structure will be 150 feet by 90 feet and will be "as high as a four-story building."

It is estimated that 17 carloads of logs will be needed to complete the log cabin.

*Aurora is located in Chicago's metro area primarily in DuPage & Kane Counties.  It is the 2nd most populous city in Illinois.

**National Hardwood Lumber Association is headquartered in Memphis, TN.  NHLA was founded in Chicago on April 8, 1898 to establish uniformity of inspecting hardwood lumber.
