HARDING PAYS TRIBUTE TO TR
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 27, 1922, President Warren G. Harding paid tribute to the 26th POTUS, Theodore Roosevelt*, on the anniversary of his birthday.
The tribute was included in a message to be read at a Roosevelt memorial celebration held in Los Angeles, California.
The message reads, in part...
"That this man...has so soon become an almost legendary figure is the proof that high ideals and sincere, unselfish service are unerringly recognized and prized by the nation."
*Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. was born on October 27, 1858 in New York City. TR attended Harvard University & led the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War.
TR served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Governor of NY, VPOTUS, 1901 & POTUS, 1901-1909. Having assumed the presidency on the death of William McKinley, he became & remains the youngest POTUS at age 42.
TR died in Oyster Bay, NY on January 6, 1919 at the age of 60.
